Temple Sinai B'nai Mitzvahs
Bar Mitzvah of Spencer Ostrovsky

Spencer Ostrovsky will be called to the Torah on Saturday, July 10, 2010 on the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah. Spencer was born in Las Vegas but moved to Mississippi when he was just 6 weeks old. His family lived there for almost 12 years and moved back to Vegas in November of 2009. Spencer has a sister, Sarah, and two dogs, Hope and Faith.

He attends Escobedo Middle School where he received straight A's this last 9 weeks. He will be in 8th grade this year.

Spencer’s hobbies include drawing and playing football. He is very interested in joining the marines when he is older and enjoys learning all he can about the military.

For his Mitzvah project he is spending his time helping with a homeless youth center.

Parents Mark and Lisa Ostrovsky and sister Sarah could not be prouder of Spencer, he is such a blessing. They can't wait for his big day!

Bar Mitzvah of Aaron Matthew Epstein

Aaron Matthew Epstein will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah at Temple Sinai on Saturday, July 24th.

Aaron was born in Las Vegas but enjoys frequent visits to family in California, New York and Florida. He especially loves to going to the beach, fishing and attending Yankee games.

Aaron attends Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts as an Orchestra Major. Aaron has played the violin for five years. He was recently awarded the rating of “Excellent” by the Nevada Music Educators Association. He also had the wonderful opportunity to perform for the play “And A Child Shall Lead”.

While at LVA, Aaron attended Leadership class where he volunteered many hours of community service by helping a local school, animal shelter and raising money for autism awareness. He also did other work contributing to more global issues.

Aaron’s hobbies include quading, four-wheeling and hot rod racing. He also enjoys hanging out with his friends and playing on the computer.

Aaron’s parents, Howard and Jeannie, as well as his whole family are very proud of Aaron for taking on this challenge as a step to becoming a responsible and successful adult.

Sarah Elizabeth Saylor and Mary Rose Saylor

Sarah Elizabeth Saylor and Mary Rose Saylor were called to the Torah for B'not Mitzvah June 19, 2010.

Sarah is an eighth grader at Leavitt Middle School where she excels at Art. Her works have been exhibited at the school and she recently had her drawings showcased at CSN in a district wide juried Art exhibit. She has spent the past year volunteering as a teaching assistant at Temple Sinai. She loves Art, Music and Animals.

Mary, known as "Rosie" to friends and family is in Seventh grade at Leavitt Middle School where she is a member of multiple choirs. Mary sings Lead Soprano and has performed in local as well as regional choir competitions. She appeared last year in Reno and just returned from a four day competition in San Diego. Besides singing Mary is also an aspiring fashion designer.

For their mitzvah projects, Sarah and Rosie are collecting stuffed toys for the newly adopted children in the Court System. They are asking for new or gently used stuffed animals to be presented by the Judge at Adoption Court when adoptions are finalized. Toys can be dropped off at Temple Sinai.

Their parents Hali and Andy Saylor, grandparents and entire family are extremely proud of both girls for taking the next step in their journey toward adulthood.

Hava Schwartz 

Hava Schwartz will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah at Temple Sinai on Saturday, June 26th.

Hava attends the Math and Science Magnet Academy at Hyde Park Middle School and is looking forward to starting the Bio-Medical Program at Rancho High School in the fall. Her math and science skills have led her to compete as a mathlete ranking in the top ten statewide, and science where she has represented the state of Nevada at National Science Olympiad competitions for the last two years.

Her artistic side is nurtured through dance. Nevada Ballet Theater awarded Hava a Future Dance Scholarship and she has studied dance with this scholarship for the last five years. She also plays a mean saxophone.

Hava has an abiding interest in the welfare of others and has developed an interest in nonprofit organizations that assist those in need. She has contributed many hours to multiple organizations as her Mitzvah contribution to the community. This commitment has expressed itself most recently in helping to coordinate the Family Promise week at Temple Sinai. She also tutors and assisted in establishing and improving a recycle program at a local school.

Hava's parents Jason and Shari, her siblings Johanna and Ethan, and her entire family could not be more proud of her and what a warm and loving woman she has become.
